Jess had always been the good girl. Church, school then a little more church was her life. She wasn’t the girl to get asked on dates or even have a lot of friends. She mainly kept to herself until she was noticed by the one guy she had been dreaming about since she hit puberty. Deon was a force that Jess had no choice but to allow to come in and sweep her away. He gave her everything she ever wanted and she found herself so wrapped up in him that she could see nothing else. Her fairytale soon turned into a nightmare once she learned she wasn’t the only girl he was loving. Next were the fights and the drama. Trying to leave Deon became a war that she wasn’t prepared to fight. What do you do when someone you love so much hurts you? How can you leave them when you can’t even go a day without them? Love is many things but it should never hurt. For Jessenia her life was nice until it wasn’t. She fell in love with a man that really didn’t love her at all and the battle to get back to herself wasn’t going to be an easy one. He said he loved her and she believed him. His type of love was pain most of the time and she started to bleed his love right out of her until one day she noticed the love was gone. To leave Deon, Jess has to find herself and find her strength. Will she succeed or will she forever be wrapped up in a man that really loves no one but himself?

I liked this story because it is so common in today society. But to say that I was emotionally drained is an understatement. Jess you got so caught up but I can see why. Deon was giving you the love that your parents did not. But, it came to a point where you had to put your big girl panty on and take responsibility for yourself and the children that you have. What you did to Mauri was so wrong, but his love for you was so strong that he learned how to forgive you. I loved the end because Deon did not get to have an easy way out.Product details

Being a woman who has also been in a domestic violence relationship I found myself remembering things from my past and it angered me that Jessenia would not leave Deon it really bothered me especially when she had someone like Marquice who left her despite it all from the beginning I hope anyone who reads this book learn something from it because I did sometimes people's experiences are different and minds is different I only went to my Thang for four years she adored 10 there was no way in hell I could've done that my bottom was when he tried to throw me out of the five-story window what the phone cord wrapped around my neck got bless you ladies thank you Dominique for this book you might have saved someone's life
This was my first book I’ve read from this author and i must say it was a good read. The characters drew you in and the story was very realistic. The predator prey relationship between Jess and Deon was spot on and the author sometimes has me ready to throw the book. Jess was so naive but it was completely believable. She craved her parents love and Deon preyed on her weakness. My only complaint is that the book needed a little editing for pacing. Sometimes the pace just seemed completely off. I wasn’t sure why we would spend so much time on the torie Jess back and forth for like 5 chapters in a row it felt like the story was repeating itself. Deon cheated on Jess with torie Jess left Deon Deon would beat on torie somehow Jess would come back and Deon would still keep messing with Torie. Also i felt like the story would go off track sometimes the best example being the revelation that Mauris mom was raped like where did that come from and why did we need to know that. I feel like the story wrapped up too quickly and we didn’t get to see the aftermath of the climax of the story. The book ended with the scene from the opening and we get a short epilogue after that. I would’ve been interested to see some time pass and see Jess get her life together and rebuild he relationships and her life. Also i would’ve been interested to see Deons family continue to try to get to Jess even after Deon was revealed to be a monster. Also i didn’t understand how the drug charges didn’t stick at the end that should’ve just sweetened the domestic violence case. Overall still a good book i will definitely be looking out for more from this author.

The biggest mistake in Jess's life was falling for Deon. He was wayyyyyy out her league and messed that poor girl life all up. IDK why she didn't take her shot with Mauri in the very beginning. Mauri loved that girl past his soul, yet she let Deon constantly manipulate her into returning to him. That boy really, really cared for and loved her.
I strongly believe Jessica helped Deon out. Jessica is truly one of the "no earthly good" Christians. She is also one that neglects her entire family to put the church first. Her religious ways were overbearing and pushed her daughter into the devil himself.
I didn't like Deon early on in the book, like, soon as he was introduced😂. Grown man that have no problem messing with young or teenage girls is a major turn off for me. I will immediately think he's not wrapped too tight. That mfer needs help! Well a beatdown would be more suitable 🤷🏿♀️
IDC about none of his excuses or reasons of why he would try to cuff Torie because my mind is already set that he is out to manipulate her. Babygirl just letting him get away with any and everything because she's thinking he "loves" her. And Deon did exactly that. He showed Jess just how much he "loved" her

Domestic violence is real. I like reading the fiction books about it but yet it's real life. I read the short story version and had to get the novel. Jess was naïve and had to find herself. I'm glad she was able to get her peace and happiness she deserves in the end.
This is by far my favorite book and the best I ever read !!
I don't like domestic abuse books. I really can't stomach them from personally knowing women who went trough this type of abuse. I try to avoid any book that's based of of that, but this book was recommended to me in a book group. I'm happy I read it. Some of it was hard for me to stomach, but I got through reading it and believe it or not I've read worst. This book is so thought provoking because you literally start wondering what could make a good girl lose her self so badly in a man to accept such treatment. But this book did such a great job of showing you how a good girl can get her self so caught up in a horrible situation. You go through the motion with her you feel her pain and you get angry and frustrated with her. This is why I call it thought provoking it makes you want to protect all the young girls you know in a potentially bad situation. I can keep going but I won't.

The book was a great read! I likes how it covered relationships and violence , with Jess and deon making it seem so real . I brought this book when it first came out and decided to read it again .
